In Māori culture Matariki is the cluster of stars known as the Pleiades, or Seven Sisters, which rise in midwinter and mark the Māori new year. 

Māori have a fascinating creation story and connection to this specific star system. 

Silver flecks make this one sparkle, just like this stunningly luminous asterism, which can be seen with the naked eye from October to March.
