'The Fifth Day of Creation'

"On the fifth day of creation God filled the sky and seas with living creatures."

My 2024 solo exhibition 'New Earth' explored our divine connection to nature and the cosmos via the book of Genesis’ creation story. A cosmogonic story that took the viewer from the Earth’s conception over six days through to the seventh, the Sabbath, a period of peace and prosperity, or to some: the ‘New Earth’.

'New Earth' in particular explored the innate bond between humans and animals.

In this piece 'The Fifth Day of Creation', I celebrate our beautiful sea creatures. The fluidity of the ocean, the detail of the turtle, it all came together just days before the exhibition opened! It was such a joy to paint.

This was my favourite piece from the 'New Earth' exhibition, and one of the largest.

Oil on canvas. Finished with a water based satin varnish.
